Sumo Wrestler Costume

Sumo Wrestler CostumeIf you are still looking for a costume for Halloween, or maybe a costume party of some sort, then a sumo wrestler costume is a great choice. These have always been popular, but even more so in recent years, once the technology was developed to make them inflatable!

You can get these costumes in an inflatable version or a regular, padded version. Many people go for the inflatable, version, simply because it is more fun (see video below!). If they are not inflatable, then they will need padding, or something else to keep the costume wide.

A sumo wrestler costume may be rented or bought. Price them out both ways and see which is cheaper for you. This will depend on the quality of the costume, how many days you will be wearing it, and how long you will be wearing it.

Sumo Wrestler CostumeThese costume are available in a variety of sizes, from infant and children sizes to adult XXXL. If you are getting an inflatable sumo wrestler costume, you will likely be able to get a smaller size if need be, since you will have extra room on the inside.

You can make your own sumo wrestler costume, however, the ones which are commercially available look much better than those made at home. If making them at home, you will not be able to do the inflation. You will need to find a fat suit (unless you are naturally heavy), and these cost upward of $300. That’s more than the sumo wrestler costume will cost! You can try to stuff a leotard or bodysuit with cotton, but the cotton is expensive and you will likely look lumpy!

Sumo wrestlers compete in bare feet. It is not advised to go out in bare feet, so try to find nude-colored shoes or flip flops. They wear wooden sandals when they go outside, so this is an option as well.

Sumo Wrestlers are pretty well known for wearing only a strip of cloth when competing. This is all that is is. A strip of cloth. You can take one and simply safety pin it where need be.

To finish off your sumo wrestler costume, you should add a black wig with a ponytail. If your hair is long enough to go into a ponytail, then by all means use your own hair!
